Description

The installation and maintenance of all the various PCs, Systems, Networks, Phones and Operations of the Center for Health Research in its pursuit of being a world-class health research facility under the direction of the Systems and Operations team manager and with guidance from Senior Systems and LAN Administrators. This position is the entry level position for the Systems and Operations team.

 

Essential Functions:

75%: Primary job responsibility is help desk support for staff, projects and users. This is done by telephone, email, remotely accessing their pc and at their desks. You will also need to provide training and documentation for users, project staff and other  Systems staff. Support a variety of network printers from various vendors including HP, Xerox and Lexmark.  Duties also include moving, installing and maintaining computer and printer hardware.
5%: Servers software and hardware - Perform hardware and software installation, maintenance, license tracking and troubleshooting for all servers; this includes data base software, application software, terminal servers, security software includes server virus protection and O.S. patches and backup software on both Compaq/HP Proliant running Windows server software and Alpha servers running OpenVMS software.
5%: Network and Telephone services - Network installation, maintenance and trouble shooting of Cisco switches between remote sites and the main CHR network; this includes telephone and network cross connects.
5%: Operations duties include user account requests for projects and file services; support for projects and users; support for the CHR web presence including remote access setups, configurations and troubleshooting firewall VPN for traveling and home users.
5%: Security, including virus and security patches for server and Script Logic and SMS rollouts for desktop security, virus protection and new features.
5%: Email services including virus and spam detection and protection. This involves multiple servers for smtp, spam and email.

Performs other duties as requested.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: 

2+ year's previous experience in data processing or computer related field; including network and phone connections.
2+ years experience in providing customer-focused service
Demonstrated working knowledge of XP and or Windows 7 desktop environments, Microsoft Office products, and Windows 2003 or 2008 server.
Associate's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Demonstrates a high level of communication ability, both written and oral.
Demonstrates customer-focused service skills.
Ability to provide support for Microsoft Office products.
Ability to troubleshoot workstation hardware.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Work with network switches
Work with remote access
Training towards Microsoft certification.
Understanding of computer architectures and operating system principles.
Knowledge of computing technologies.
Event and error monitoring in a networked computing environment.
Some understanding of networking theory.
Knowledge in LAN and data communications fundamentals including installation and administration.
Understanding of security principles.
Documentation skills are needed for both the team and for user documentation.
Tracking of supplies needs.
Windows terminal server knowledge.

 

Salary range:  $21.78 - $28.31
